new new new

It's a new year and with that generally comes a list of goals. Recently, I've begun to wonder why we always choose this change of calendar year to institute the bigger changes we want to make. What is our logic? It's the middle of winter when (especially in the pnw) the sun doesn't show its pretty face very often and there's a general feeling of sluggishness in the air. So, I'm not making a list of New Years goals this time. I don't want to limit my changes to a time of year I feel least like implementing them.

What I do want to focus on is that it is easy to feel bogged down this time of year and how I can stay positive and happy. So, this is the start of my list. (Like I said the weather's getting to me so I'll just start small and add as I go.)

1. Travel more, even if it's short day trips.
Road trips are one of my favorite things. I was completely spoiled when I was younger because dance competitions would often take me out of state and performances were all over the state. Now, I call an hour long drive to Seattle a trip! But it's become clear lately that the distance is irrelevant. As long as I'm going somewhere, doing something, exploring then I will be happy.

2. Stop and enjoy the view at the end of the trip.
You know the saying 'It's not about the destination, it's the journey'? That doesn't mean we should neglect our scenic stop at the end of our inspiring journey or count it any less beautiful. I want to strive to become more present and appreciative of each moment, whether it's on the trip or once I've arrived.
